When should we start?

Due to both the Bride and Groom’s hectic schedules, dance lessons should start at least 3 months prior to the wedding day. We recommend getting started 5-6 months before the big day to allow time to become truly comfortable dancing together, but please try to give at least three. This allows for flexible scheduling and ample time to perfect the dance.

How many lessons does it take?

Most couples start feeling the first degree of comfort and confidence at about the 5th lesson. That’s an average of course; you have your own goals and expectations for your first dance and for dancing in general!

Is the lesson price per person or per couple?

The price is per lesson taught, whether to a couple or an individual.

How long are the lessons?

Lessons are 55 minutes in length. Longer or shorter sessions can also be arranged.

What can I expect to learn?

The instructor will work with the couple to assess their goals and desires for their dance, and help with song selection if needed. A couple or individual can expect to learn the fundamentals of leading and following, dance steps tailored to their personality, music and dance choice, and the fundamentals of how to hear music and dance to the beat of their song or songs.

Will you help us choose the song?

Some couples come to us with a few favourite song selections. The choice of the dance then follows from the timing and beat of the music. For couples who are unsure of a song, please visit our wedding songs and music page for some suggestions. A demonstration of several dances to popular song genres can assist a couple in narrowing down a song choice.

What should we wear?

Wear something comfortable, but ladies, please don’t wear open-toed shoes. As you are learning, there will inevitably be occasions when, yes, he might step on your toes. (You will learn how to dance with him so that your toes are always clear.) Also, ladies, don’t wear your actual wedding shoes to the first lesson, though if you have similar heels, they are fine. A good rule is just to wear comfortable shoes, but not flip flops or sandals, as they make dancing more difficult.

What is the payment policy?

Lesson packages are discounted and must be paid in full at the first lesson. Payment is accepted by either cash or credit card. Credit cards accepted online only.

What is the cancellation policy?

We make every effort to accommodate our couples and understand that emergencies happen. Please let us know 24 hours before the lesson if you anticipate any schedule changes so that we may release the private studio for other couples. Cancellations with less than 24 hour notice will be charged at the normal lesson rate.
